Program introduction
Imagine a place where children feel safe and on their journey to discovery, they are accompanied by caring adults who are trained in child development. Imagine your 2-year-old toddler preparing their own snack or enthusiastically getting dressed to go outside. This is the Montessori world of the smallest children.
Our nursery school program for children aged 1.5 to 3 years offers Czech-English instruction based on the Montessori education method. The first three years of life are crucial for creating a solid foundation on which children build their lifelong approach to education and other areas of their lives. In order to grow up and realize their full potential, at the beginning of their life, a child needs to be surrounded by people who will support them in exploring the world, acquiring language, improving movement and finding a sense of order.
Children gradually acquire various skills in an environment that supports their development.
- Practical life, including gaining independence and building relationships with other children, courtesy, decent behavior and social skills
- Sensory activities and language skills
- Art, crafts, music, and a sense of rhythm
- Fine and gross motor skills
In the nursery classes, we support the development of independence and understanding in mutual relationships and support children on their path to acquire abilities and get the feeling of security and trust in themselves. Our motto is Maria Montessori’s quote, “Never help a child with a task at which he feels he can succeed".
Duhovka Nursery School is located in Pevnostní Street in a quiet part of Střešovice, Prague 6. There are two classes in Toddlers, Lavender and Chestnut, each of which can accommodate
10 children and has one Czech teacher and one native-English speaker. The school is located in the newly renovated building of the former Spanish Embassy. A large garden featuring Montessori elements full of green areas and space for games is available to children.

I love working at Duhovka not only because it is a beautiful, peaceful environment but there is also a
sense of peace within and amongst the staff. There is not the normal culture of negativity and blame I
have witnessed elsewhere. Issues are dealt with with openness, conversation and focus on the issue,
not an individual. The same approach is applied throughout the school, which supports a positive
environment.
Since moving to Prague in 2012 I have been working with young children. This was a great
preparation for having my own children. Being a mother of two small boys has given me the self-
awareness and experience to know how to be calm, even when everything else is not.
In 2015 I completed my AMS Early Childhood Teaching diploma. In addition to this, having a BA (hon)
in Interior Design and being the owner of a teahouse/community centre/theatre called A Maze in
Tchaiovna for 9 years taught me how to observe patterns in people, create new systems and design
solutions.

Duhovka puts the children first, allowing each child´s unique personality to develop
within an environment of trust and respect. The classroom is for the child, with the
size of furniture and arrangement made specifically for them, reiterating that they are
what is important. I am excited to work in an environment designed to make the
children´s independence shine.
As a volunteer for the Czech School in Scotland I have practical experience
communicating with bilingual children of various language levels and ages. I have
experience nannying for a family whose children were attending a Montessori school.
The time with this family has allowed me to see how the Montessori education is
implemented into the home. I have been brought up within an incredibly creative
family, with music and art playing an important role in my life and education.
Whilst completing my degree of Fine Art in the University of Edinburgh I have spent
time volunteering at Czech School Scotland CIC, nannying for a family with two
children and working as a teaching assistant at my local primary school. In
preparation for working at Duhovka I have started to educate myself more thoroughly
on the practical setup and practices of a Montessori classroom.
